There have been unconfirmed reports that 15 senior Nigerian military officers have been court martialed and found guilty of providing information and ammunition to Boko Haram militants.

The news comes as protesters demanding the release of over 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by rebels in April took to the streets of Abuja just one day after demonstrations were banned by local authorities.

Much of the anger among protesters has been directed towards the government for failing to protect the girls who were snatched on April 14.

Boko Haram has killed thousands in an uprising that began five years ago seeking to establish an Islamic state.
